How do we find Sustainability in a VUCA world?
IMHO, there is not one thing that definitively creates a sustainable organisation – there are many.
Like well-oiled machines, sustainable organisations have many components that need to work together.
Not just working in their own right – working together.
Riffing off each other, if you will.
So the first thing in building sustainable organisations – those that will survive into the future – is to be like the internet.
Be fully connected!
This is a frame of mind thing, and as a foundation of our sustainable business, it needs to be there from the start. That is a difficult thing to do, because at the beginning, there is SO MUCH to think about.
What is even more difficult however, is retrofitting connectivity later in the evolution. Following on with the building analogy, anyone who has tried to put new technology into an old building will get the idea!
Start as we mean to continue.
When we do manage to get into the internet mindset and keep it at front of mind, as the business grows and evolves, that connectivity will tell managers and owners how to manage the path.
